'Aladdin' Trailer For Disney's Live Action Remake Takes Us Back To The Cave Of Wonders For The First Time Since Our Childhoods

It keeps Will Smith's Genie in the bottle though.

At last we have had our first glimpse of the live action remake of the 1992 classic Disney film ‘Aladdin’.

The upcoming movie is directed by Guy Ritchie - best known for ‘Snatch’ and ‘Sherlock Holmes’ - and stars Mena Massoud as the titular character.

The teaser trailer strikes a similar tone to the nostalgia-inducing first trailer for the live action remake of ‘Beauty And The Beast’, with an opening that sets the scene in the fantastical world of Agrabah.

We get a chance to see a parrot - presumably Jafar’s companion Iago - flying over the sand dunes with the city in the background.

The parrot then flies towards the Cave Of Wonders and we hear the classic line: “Know this - only one may enter here, one whose worth lies far within. A diamond in the rough.”

We then get a glimpse of Aladdin heading into the lion shaped entrance before he finally picks up the famous lamp.

For now though, we will have to wait to see Will Smith’s Genie appear from it.

The ‘Fresh Prince’ actor is taking on the role, and has big shoes to fill after Robin Williams’ beloved enactment of the character that has become synonymous with the animated film.

The film is due out in May 2019, but has faced some criticism for its casting choices.

Some fans were angry when it was announced Billy Magnussen would be cast as a brand new character, Prince Anders, in a move that was labelled unnecessary whitewashing.

Some people were also unhappy with the decision to cast Naomi Scott - who is of British, Indian and Ugandan heritage - as Princess Jasmine, rather than a woman of Middle Eastern descent.

‘Aladdin’ follows the success of other live-action Disney remakes including ‘Beauty And The Beast’, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, and the origin story ‘Maleficent’, based around ‘Sleeping Beauty’, which featured Angelina Jolie in the lead role.
