Man attacked by shark on NSW Mid-North Coast

A man has been attacked by a shark at Nambucca Heads on the New South Wales Mid-North Coast.

It is understood the 36-year-old man was bitten on the leg while surfing near Scotts Head Beach on Sunday morning.

He swam to a nearby break wall where a passer-by saw him and called emergency services, NSW police said in a statement.

Emergency services received the call just after 7am, and sent six crews and a Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter to Wellington Drive at Nambucca Heads.

The man sustained five deep lacerations to his right lower leg, a NSW Ambulance spokesman confirmed.

NSW police confirmed beaches in the area were closed including Shelly and Main Beach.

Officers from the Mid North Coast Police District will work with the Department of Primary Industry to investigate the incident.
