They didn't fit into neat ideas of misogyny, racism or any other kind of hate, although a couple of them were happy to claim the label of 'sadism.' They used the Internet to systematically hurt others and get a response.

It's important that we don't turn away. As long as children are washing up dead on beaches, allegedly being abused in off shore detention centres or languishing in refugee camps, we must demand action.

In an ideal world every state and territory would enact binding, detailed guidelines on supporting these students. These guidelines would drill down into recurring issues for trans kids such as: participation in school sports, toilet usage and choosing to wear whatever uniform they like.
