There's a fine balance between allowing your children to express their personal style, and also making sure they look acceptable to step outside of the house. So, after you've established that underwear is not outerwear, the mission remains: looking cool.

It's that celebration of individuality and style that inspired Michelle Lopez and Andrea Dotzauer to create TheMINIclassy, a line of cool-kid clothing that is anchored in the Milwaukee-based brand's eye-catching harem pants.

"We built our brand around the idea of creating comfy, well-made garments for kids that allow them to be creative in the way they dress and we believe that we've succeeded -- at least in that area," Lopez told The Huffington Post.

Furthermore, Lopez and Dotzauer's children have a hand in product development and test out all the styles. "If it doesn't fly with them it's back to the drawing board."

We decided to round up more children's fashion brands that are producing the kind of clothes that would meet the approval of both kiddo and parent -- while most importantly encouraging self expression. Now that's super cool!

The folks at this statement-making brand believe that childhood is too short to wear boring clothes. That definitely applies to us grownups as well, but it's important to instill that principle at a young age.

There's no way your kid won't have fun in these threads. The whimsical prints will foster imagination and individuality. I mean, do you see the fringe on that hoodie?
