Adele's '25' Won't Stream On Services Like Spotify

You'll just have to buy a copy.

Adele's hugely anticipated new album "25" comes out on Friday -- but if you've been counting on using a streaming service such as Spotify or Apple Music to hear it, you may be waiting quite a while.

The New York Times reported on Thursday that the album will not be available to stream, at least for now. If you want to hear it, you'll just have to buy the album.

A representative from Spotify confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the album would not be streaming on their service.

"We love and respect Adele, as do her 24 million fans on Spotify," the Spotify spokesperson said. "We hope that she will give those fans the opportunity to enjoy '25' on Spotify alongside '19' and '21' very soon."

Adele herself was reportedly central to the decision not to post "25" to streaming services, following in the footsteps of Taylor Swift, who removed her back catalog from Spotify just over a year ago because she didn't feel that the Sweden-based company compensated musicians enough for the music.

It's no coincidence that Adele and Swift are the artists fighting this fight. At a time when album sales for even huge acts have plummeted, they still sell albums. Swift has sold more than 5 million copies of her most recent album, "1989," while Adele's "21" is one of the few albums in recent memory to sell more than 10 million copies.

As for "25," Columbia Records is reportedly shipping nearly 4 million physical copies of the CD to stores for the release. Preorders have also propelled the album to the top of the sales charts on iTunes for much of the last month. The first single off the album, "Hello," has also set fire to the sales charts since its release in October.
