With eight nominations including âSong of the Yearâ for her chart-topping hit âDance Monkeyâ, Tones and I knew all eyes would be on her at the 2019 ARIA Awards on Wednesday.
The musician, who real name is Toni Watson, revealed the very personal reason she chose a near-fluro green coat emblazoned with the name of her song, âThe Kids Are Comingâ.
Speaking to Angus OâLoughlin and Jules Sebastian on the red carpet as part of the official ARIAs and Swarovski live stream, the singer said she selected this look as the bright colour would âdistractâ spectators from noticing she wasnât wearing âa dress and heelsâ like other female musicians.
She topped off her look with a pair of black boots and a matching cap for what is her first ever ARIAs experience.
This year has proved to be a big one where the star has pushed the boundaries in more than just fashion, and her unique music style has paid off.
She is nominated for eight awards, including âBest Female Artist, Breakthrough Artist, Best Independent Release, Best Pop Release and Best Video. Sheâs also been given a nod in the Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year categories.
