An Australian man has been charged with the attempted murder of a security guard at supermodel Miranda Kerr's Los Angeles home.
Shaun Anthony Haywood allegedly broke into Kerr's Malibu property on October 14 to deliver a letter and stabbed a security guard in the face when approached.
The 29-year-old is facing a possible life sentence with charges including assault with a deadly weapon and wilful, deliberate and premeditated attempted murder.
Haywood is accused of taking the knife from the security guard when confronted, prompting the altercation which left both men hospitalised.
LA authorities confirmed Haywood was then shot by the security guard as neighbours and workmen watched on. One man reportedly scaled the fence to help the injured security guard.
"The man, after he was shot, still held the knife and was going after the security man so my guy kicked the knife out of the perpetrator's hands," a neighbour told LA TV station CBS2.
The security guard is reportedly in a stable condition while the 29-year-old is in a critical condition with non-life threatening injuries.
The supermodel, who is engaged to Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel, and her five-year-old son Flynn were not at home when the incident occurred.
Haywood is due to appear at the Los Angeles county superior court on Tuesday.
