āBachelor In Paradiseā contestant Niranga Amarasinghe has claimed one of his co-stars wasnāt interested in dating him because she didnāt want to take him home to her parents due to his Sri Lankan background.
The 29-year-old, who moved to Australia from Sri Lanka when he was three, shared his thoughts in an Instagram story on Thursday morning after his elimination on Wednesday night.
Niranga said that while Brittney Weldon had apologised āoff cameraā for rejecting his single date card, it was another contestant he was referring to.
He said he was āinfuriatedā by this co-star complaining about getting a ābad editā on the screen because apparently āthere were so many more nasty commentsā sheād made to him and others that didnāt air.
āOne particular moment telling several people they wouldnāt take me back to the parents because of where I was from,ā the aircraft engineer wrote. He said this person couldnāt āpronounce my name and doesnāt even know where Iām fromā.
āI accept rejection itās life but this I donātā¦ Not once have they ever apologized,ā he added.
Channel Ten did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Niranga was eliminated Wednesday night from āBachelor in Paradiseā along with Jamie Doran and Chris Gilleland. He initially asked Brittney Weldon on a date, but she declined it, explaining she didnāt feel a romantic connection.
He then expressed interest in Cassandra Mamone during a single date. However, she made it clear he was only a friend and chose to give her rose to Jackson Garlick.
Niranga has been one of three culturally diverse contestants this season alongside Brazilian Mary Viturino and First Nations contestant Renee Barrett.
Niranga first appeared on Angie Kentās season of āThe Bacheloretteā in 2019. In an interview with HuffPost Australia last year, he said being the only South Asian man in the group was not so unusual for him, and he didnāt feel uncomfortable while on set.
āI have a group of mates that are completely diverse. It wasnāt anything new to me,ā he said. āObviously being in sporting teams and the only dark guy, Iāve grown up with that and Iām pretty comfortable with that whole situation.ā
āIām definitely more than the brown guy. Iām fun, Iām energetic. Iām there to make a little bit of a difference and take on the Aussie boys.ā
