Former Parramatta Eels football manager Jason Irvine has been charged in relation to the NRL salary cap scandal at the club.
The 42-year-old Irvine was arrested in Leichardt on Monday and charged with knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime, dishonestly obtaining property by deception, and acting with intent to pervert the course of justice, according to a statement released on Monday by NSW Police.
The arrest comes as part of Strike Force Rhodium which was established by NSW Police and the State Crime Command's Fraud and Cybercrime Squad in May 2016 to investigate allegations of fraud within the NRL club.
Irvine appeared at Newtown Local Court on Monday and was granted bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday.
The salary cap scandal at the club saw player managers raided in relation to the alleged crimes, as well as the club fined $1 million and docked 12 competition points in the 2016 season.
It is believed the scandal encompassed merchandise sales and inflated invoices that were used to honour under-the-table payments to the club's players.
NSW Police also confirmed that detectives intend to speak to several other people as part of their ongoing investigations in Strike Force Rhodium.
