Nick Kyrgios has proved he can perform under pressure, sending Australia through to the Davis Cup semifinals with a straight set win over American Sam Querry.

The fiery tennis player seemed pretty stoked to come out on top, 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-4, giving Australia a 3-1 lead over the United States at Brisbane's Pat Rafter Arena.

Speaking post match, Kyrgios thanked the crowd for their support.

"It was a tough third set without a break, obviously with a lot of emotions," Kyrgios said.

"There are a lot of ebbs and flows, ups and downs, I hit a bit of a flat patch in the start of the third set and with the crowd it was easy to get up, out here."

Australian captain Leyton Hewitt was celebrating with Kyrgios, and for good reason, it is only the second time in 11 years Australia has made it to this stage of the Davis Cup.

"There is no greater honour than wearing the green and gold," Hewitt said.

"I couldn't be prouder of my boys."

Described as the World Cup of tennis, the Davis Cup is an annual tournament between men's teams from countries in a knock-out format. Australia will play Belgium or Italy in September's semifinals. If Belgium wins their quarter final against Italy, they will host the semifinal, if Italy comes back to claim victory, they will travel to Australia.
