Arachnophobes consider yourselves warned -- researchers have discovered over 50 new spider species in Queensland's Cape York Peninsula...with some the size of dinner plates.
Warning: this post contains photos of spiders that will make you feel uncomfortable.
A team of scientists from Queensland Museum and Macquarie University discovered the spiders druing an expedition in Quinkan Country, far north Queensland.
The researchers worked closely with Indigenous rangers and traditional owners, using their specialised knowledge to aid in the discoveries.
The expedition was a part of Bush Blitz, a species discovery partnership program between the Australian Government, BHP Billiton Sustainable Communities and Earthwatch.
"This was one of the largest number of species Bush Blitz has ever discovered during one expedition," researchers said.
"Far north Queensland can boast an extraordinary variety of spiders."
Well, it's safe to say that you can take far north Queensland off your list of places to visit (unless spiders are your thing).
