When it comes to snakes there's no need to beat around the bush. They are terrifying... like REALLY terrifying. A snake eating a wallaby, now that's just pure, unquestionable horror.
Golfers were treated to the fright of their life when they came across a scrub python on the Paradise Palms golf course in Cairns devouring a wallaby. The whole bloody lot of it.
The incident involved the four-metre snake effectively swallowing the marsupial in a whopping 30 minute struggle, The Cairns Post reports.
Robert Willemse captured the event and told the paper that the snake got hold of the poor wallaby's head and rolled into the middle of the fairway into the 17th hole.
"The python swallowed it and rolled into the creek, then snuck back into the bush. It must have gone for a rest for the next few days," Willemse said.
The general manager at the golf course told The Cairns Post that these kind of incidents are more common than people think. Wait, WHAT?!
"We see a lot of pythons out here. That's the first time we have actually seen one devour a fellow animal on the golf course," he said.
According to cape-york-australia.com the Amethystine (scrub) python mostly feeds off small animals like small possums, bird, bandicoots, rats, frogs, reptiles and even flying foxes. They occasionally like larger prey such as a wallaby(of course), pademelon or tree kangaroo.
It's also the same type of snake that made headlines in 2013 after it was spotted clinging to the wing of a plane on a Qantas flight from Cairns and Port Moresby to Papua New Guinea.
