Man Charged After Found With Rosie O'Donnell's Daughter Chelsea

The New Jersey man was charged with endangerment of a child and public communication of obscenity.

A 25-year-old New Jersey man named Steven Sheerer was charged with endangerment of a child and public communication of obscenity on Friday after allegedly housing Rosie O'Donnell's 17-year-old daughter, Chelsea.

Chelsea O'Donnell went missing on Aug. 11 and was found by police on Tuesday.

A statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says that after searching the teenager's phone, police found "evidence of inappropriate communications over the last several weeks" between Chelsea O'Donnell and Sheerer. The statement also notes that Sheerer could face up to ten years in prison for the charges.

"[Sheerer] was involved with a minor, and Rosie's concern has been and always will be the health, safety and well-being of her daughter," Rosie O'Donnell's publicist told The Associated Press in a statement. "Rosie is profoundly appreciative for the work the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office has done and the diligence of the local police."

Last week, the 53-year-old comedian took to Twitter to announce that her daughter, who she said "lives with mental illness," was missing and was believed to be without her needed medication. Later that evening, the teenager was found in Sheerer's home in Barnegat, New Jersey.
