Forget the days of learning how to knit at your mother’s knee -- a new survey shows 13.6 million Australians are learning new skills through online tutorials.
The study, by NBN Co showed 77 percent of Australians watched videos to improve themselves, with the aim of becoming more interesting and knowledgeable.
Popular topics included cooking, craft, languages, musical instruments, dance and even learning parenting skills.
The study also showed Gen Y were more likely to use online video to learn a new recipe or craft, while the baby boomers preferred DIY skill-based videos.
Brisbane entertainer Jay Jay has ridden the how-to wave, with a series of videos teaching simple magic tricks getting hundreds of thousands of views.
His YouTube channel Free Magic Live Videos teaches people how to do card tricks, sleight of hand and some next-level napkin folding.
