Look to the skies! Walt Disney World in Florida will soon have a new nighttime air show featuring dozens of illuminated drones.
A short clip released online revealed how the machines will swirl in the night sky to form a Christmas tree.
“This holiday season, the idea of ‘wishing upon a star’ will take on an even more magical meaning in the skies of Disney Springs,” the company wrote in a blog post.
Disney Springs is a shopping district inside Walt Disney World. It is not part of any of the theme parks, which means you’ll be able to see the show without a ticket.
No date was given for the first performance.
Disney just got permission from the FAA to do the drone show, according to Engadget. Airspace over the theme parks is currently a no-fly zone, put in place after the 9/11 attacks.
The program ― or at least the technology behind it ― has been in the making for quite some time, with the company filing for a patent in 2014 to use drones in aerial light performances.
