Jason Momoa is set to film 'Aquaman' on Australian shores next year.

The latest superhero blockbuster from DC Comics' Aquaman will be filmed next year on Australia's Gold Coast. The announcement comes as filming wraps up on Thor: Ragnarok.

Scott Morrison will give the green light for the Australian Government to chip in $22 million to the production. The Courier Mail reports that Aquaman will create 1200 jobs on the Gold Coast and contribute $160 million to the local economy.

Aquaman promises to be an underwater action movie set in the kingdom of Atlantis. Jason Momoa from Game of Thrones will step up as Arthur/Aquaman who discovers he is the true heir to the throne. He will appear with Amber Heard as Mera and Patrick Wilson as villain Orm.

It will be directed by Australian director James Wan, who is best known for the Saw franchise as well as Insidious and The Conjuring horror films. It's safe to say this comic book movie will have a dark twist.

The Gold Coast is no stranger to Hollywood blockbusters. It's hosted films including The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Angelina Jolie's Unbroken and the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Let's hope Amber Heard leave her pooches at home this time around though.

Filming will start at the Village Roadshow studios at the back of Warner Brother's Movie World in 2017. Aquaman is due to be released on 5th October 2018.
