France has been rocked by a mass shooting in the city of Lille.

At least three people including a 14-year-old boy have reportedly been injured after a mass shooting outside metro station in Lille, France.

According to The Sun newspaper, the attack in central Lille, in France's north, has left "many wounded".

The Sun reports that it is currently unclear who carried out the night time attack or if the incident is still ongoing.

Network Nine reports that witnesses heard at least five shots and a heavy police presence is at the scene.

The injuries are not being reported as life threatening.

Anti-terrorist police rushed to the scene, but early reports suggest the attack was "a settling of accounts" by the shooter.

More to come.
