As Cyclone Debbie raged across northern Queensland a trailer for Al Gore's follow-up documentary "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power" arrived with a stern warning: take notice.

At the same time, U.S. President Donald Trump issued an executive order rolling back many of Obama's climate policies, which were aimed at greatly reducing the United States' carbon footprint.

The 2006 documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" shocked many as the former United States Vice President, Al Gore, embarked on a mission to educate the masses about the dangers of global warming. But Trump's recent actions were criticised by Gore on a statement released on his website and to Facebook as "a misguided step away from a sustainable, carbon-free future for ourselves and generations to come".

"An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power" is scheduled for release on August 24.
