Pamela Anderson is opening a vegan restaurant in the south of France. The actress made the announcement via her website on Monday, but the real question on everyone's lips is 'why?' In truth, there are a few plausible reasons why this type of business venture could be right up her alley.
The first, and possibly most obvious reason, is that Anderson is a long-time animal rights activist. Her restaurant, 'La Table du Marché by Pamela,' (which translates to 'The Market Table') will open in Ramatuelle in the south of France on the July 4. She has teamed up with Chef Christophe Leroy to create a menu entirely free of animal products. Some of the dishes include a tomato tartare with Goji berries, traditional Provençal stuffed vegetables, and a vegan burger. Three courses are set to cost diners about €80 or just under $AUD120.
The second reason for the restaurant is her reported relationship with Julian Assange. While their relationship has never been confirmed, the announcement of the pop-up eatery was heavily buried in a tribute to the Wikileaks founder. Anderson has also been photographed as recently as June 15 arriving at the Ecuadorian Embassy to visit her supposed boyfriend.
In a lengthy blog post on her website, Anderson appeals to the newly elected French President Emmanuel Macron to visit her restaurant, so they could discuss the possibility of France granting Assange asylum.
"This is an emergency! I am reaching out, with honest diplomacy, to leaders who can make a difference to Julian's plight," Anderson writes. "At this time, there is such potential for big, galvanizing actions that would inspire the world to activism!
"I am reaching out to Emmanuel Macron, and to his wife Brigitte Trogneux. As a resident of France, my adopted home, I would like to meet with you and discuss Julian's situation. I am opening a new vegan restaurant in France in July, and I would like to extend my invitation to the new President and his First Lady. Join me on the day I open the doors, and we will sit and eat good food and discuss what can be done for Julian. France could display its strength, and so could you, if you give Julian asylum."
Assange didn't let Anderson's efforts go unnoticed.
With all this information, more unanswered questions rise to the surface. Are Assange and Anderson an item? Will Macron and his wife accept the invitation and dine with Pam?
