If you haven't heard of 'Battle of the Sexes' it's the new film starring Emma Stone and Steve Carell based on the true events leading up to the tennis showdown between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. Riggs, an outspoken chauvinist, challenged King who at the time was championing for better pay and representation of female players.
Luckily in 2017 women aren't being treated terribly at all and sexism is dead, right??
Natalie Morales stars in the film as Rosie Casals, who was part of the original nine who established the 1970 Virginia Slims Invitational tournament as a response to the United States Lawn Tennis Association (USLTA) refusing to increase prize money for female players.
At the Los Angeles premiere of the film Morales wore a stunning blue gown on the red carpet serving up some of what she called "that Angie look," referring to Angelina Jolie's iconic 2012 Oscars pose which went viral.
On Tuesday however Morales wrote on Twitter that she had been contacted about a "wardrobe malfunction" where photographers had attempted to get unflattering angles up her dress.
So someone sent me photos of me having what they called a "wardrobe malfunction" at last weekend's premiere of Battle of the Sexes... 1/— Natalie Morales (@nataliemorales) September 26, 2017
These are photogs who go to red carpets to take photos of women.. to what, embarrass them? Because they have bodies under clothes?... 3/— Natalie Morales (@nataliemorales) September 26, 2017
On a night that was supposed to be a celebration of the opening of her film, one which centers on women fighting to be respected in their industry, Morales was confronted with someone attempting to shame how she was dressed, and she wasn't having a bar of it.
Not that it would be ok at any time, but you know, this specifically, is a red carpet, so I'm there for you. There's a silent contract..5/— Natalie Morales (@nataliemorales) September 26, 2017
I'm there to promote my movie, you're there to take pics you can sell. Pics I'm POSING for, that I've agreed to. 6/— Natalie Morales (@nataliemorales) September 26, 2017
It's a high-ass slit because I like the way my leg looked & I wanted to get me some of that Angie look, but I wasn't showing you my bits 8/— Natalie Morales (@nataliemorales) September 26, 2017
The entire incident is ridiculous, and Morales couldn't have handled it any classier, brushing off all shame and putting it back on those who attempt to exploit women and their bodies.
But YOU should be. What a disgusting, horrifying job you have. 10/10— Natalie Morales (@nataliemorales) September 26, 2017
