It had been a tedious task for our previous generations when a song was stuck in their heads, and they would glue their ears to the radio all day, to remember the song. But thanks to the advancement of technology, we are gifted with such resources, which don’t let us forget our favorite songs at all. If there is a tune stuck in our head, or some lyrics driving through the mind, or maybe the song name appears in our eyes, but we don’t remember the lyrics, there is an app for every single thing about this. The advent of Smartphone has brought the large and extensive directory of the world’s music to our fingertips. Today, we already have apps for music identification installed on our phones, which we never knew solved our purposes.

Here is a list of 5 best song identifiers apps in the market:

This is also an old app for identifying music, introduced initially by Sony Ericsson. It identifies music in over 60 languages. It offers a bright design, with song details, artist, and album info featured charts of the best-selling songs. It is a primary and clutter free song identification app. TrackID links to Spotify, Youtube, and also works in offline mode. Here, the user can browse quickly through the history of tagging, and the purchase option of the song is directly shown to the user.

As the name suggests, it is highly integrated with Spotify and links directly to the same app for listening to the audio at full lengths. It detects the music and aligns the lyrics of the song accordingly. If the user does not have a Spotify Premium account, which lets the user listen to the songs infinitely, the SpotSearch app directs the users to Youtube link of the songs for listening.

This is a lyric recognition app that lets the user find the exact lyrics for the song that’s playing around, or the song can be found in the lyrics. It provides a karaoke style lyric matching, and an extensive catalog of lyrics is available for the users .Musixmatch works offline as well, and it has an excellent rapport with a lot of third-party music apps as well. However, it has a music player itself.

SoundHound

This app also works for music identification and provides an entirely accurate match to the audio. However, it has a unique feature which differentiates itself from the rest of the apps in the market. There are times when we are stuck with a tune playing in our minds, but we cannot remember the lyrics or the song, Soundhound provides a feature where the users can hum the song, or sing a few lines of the lyrics, to find the match of what they are searching for.

The humming should be close to the actual song, though, Soundhound cannot read our minds. It also matches the lyrics while the song is playing, like the karaoke mode. Though it offers lesser options than Shazam, humming is the unique feature here. It also provides a lighter app, called as HOUND, where a tap button is present, on which the user can say a song or artist name, and all relevant information would be displayed instantly.

Shazam

Came in 2008, with a simple blue button, tapping on which it listens to the audio playing around and identifies the song for us. Also, it offers the artist, album info, and links directly to Spotify, Youtube, Pandora for listening to the music, and iTunes to purchase the song. Shazam is already a built-in SIRI integrated feature in iOS 8.0and above. Shazam also connects with the social media, and lets the users know what their friends are searching for, and the playlists of most searched songs around the world.

Shazam is compatible with every Smartphone OS and comes free for its ad-version. It runs offline as well when the user can tag a song while being offline and Shazam would identify the song once it finds the internet. This app is so highly used for tagging songs, which the word Shazam has now become a verb, used as SHAZAMING A SONG. It provides a quick and the most accurate identification, in just a few seconds based on a 9-second audio it grabs from the users.

Conclusion

All the apps above are available freely, in their full or ad-based versions. There are few other apps worth mentioning like MusicID, Midomi, Mobion, SoundTracking, and also the feature in the Google app which lets the users find out the song from a captured audio. However, after using all these apps, we can conclude that Shazam has the most user-friendly and accurate identification interface, on the other hand, SoundHound comes with humming identification as well. But when it comes to lyrics, Musixmatch has an edge. However, all these apps support all the major OS in the market, and solves most of our purposes, Shazam, SoundHound and MusixMatch would be suggested in the same order for the best song identifiers in the market today.
