For a few awkward on-air moments during the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night, the limelight was stolen by a totally unexpected someone: A stage crasher who decided to pull a Kanye West during the show.
As video of the incident shows, the cast of the daytime TV show “The Talk” had been on stage to accept an award for Favorite Daytime Hosting Team when a random man barged into their midst.
Interrupting panelist Sara Gilbert’s speech, the man, wearing a red jacket, grabbed the mic and began plugging the new album of rapper Kevin Gates.
“Shout out to Kevin Gates, he has an album,” the man said, before referencing Kanye West. “Yeezy just jumped over the Jumpman … yessir.”
Gilbert and her coworkers, including Sheryl Underwood and Sharon Osbourne, were visibly stunned by the intrusion.
Underwood and Osbourne, however, quickly managed to boot the man off the stage.
“You ain’t gonna pull no Steve Harvey up in here,” Underwood said, wresting the mic from the stage crasher.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the man was an audience member named Zacari Nicasio.
Nicasio told the news outlet that he decided to interrupt the awards show to “make a name for himself” and “to tell everybody who I was.”
He claims to have also pulled similar stunts in the past, including crashing Kris Jenner’s 60th birthday party last year.
Citing an eyewitness, The Hollywood Reporter says Nicasio was placed in handcuffs by police inside the People’s Choice venue in downtown Los Angeles. He was reportedly released shortly afterward.
Back in 2009, Kanye West famously barged onto the stage at MTV's Video Music Awards during Taylor Swift's acceptance of the award for Best Female Video.
As a stunned Swift looked on, West grabbed the mic and protested the then-19-year-old's win over Beyonce.
“Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time!” he declared, referring to the video for the hit song “Single Ladies.”
The two singers have since made amends.
